CIRPS (Interuniversity Center for Research and Sustainable Development) is a center of research excellence for 300 teaching, research and technical staff coming from the nine Italian universities that belong to the project plus another 40 from Italian and international universities, research centers, companies and institutions. CIRPS co-ordinates and takes part in networks of excellence, research projects and local development activities on an international level. The research unit for Environmental Technological Innovation (Unità di ricerca Innovazione Tecnologica Ambientale or Uita) seeks to encourage the application of technological innovation in the field of environmental sustainability with the aim of allowing for industrial, economic and financial expansion that respects socio-environmental limitations.
