CIRPS (Interuniversity Center for Research and Sustainable Development) is a center of research excellence for 300 teaching, research and technical staff coming from the nine Italian universities that belong to the project plus another 40 from Italian and international universities, research centers, companies and institutions. CIRPS co-ordinates and takes part in networks of excellence, research projects and local development activities on an international level. This research unit was created to meet the need for investigating the many issues surrounding biofuels, precisely in view of the evident benefits linked to their use, falling into the categories of security of supply, protection of the environment and sustainable transport.
