FEATURED PROJECTS
Bold declarations of intent and theoretical elaborations are one thing, but progress in developing innovative products and services can best be measured with concrete examples of work being carried out on the ground. This section presents an overview of the most important research and development projects on-going in Italy, providing a virtual map of Italian excellence in the fields of renewable energy, sustainable development, sustainable transport, waste cycle management and conservation.
Conservation
-
Water
Project on pollution at sea - In-depth study into the dynamics of marine circulation, which is particularly important in order to analyze advective and diffusing processes of discharge water. The study investigates marine currents in order to disperse pollutants in the sea, starting with the influence of civil waste dumped at sea, but also of industrial effluent, for example that coming from the cooling of power stations.
Sustainable Development
-
Energy Efficiency
Magnetic refrigeration project - This activity involves the study of some innovative technologies with low environmental impact: it analyzes especially the performance and prospects for room-temperature magnetic refrigeration.
Waste Cycle
-
Waste to Energy
Intelligent Transfer Stations (ITS) project - The company applies an innovative approach to the energy valorization of the portion of municipal solid waste left over after separate collection.
Renewable Energy
-
Solar
Photovoltaic project - At Solsonica’s plant in Cittaducale (Rieti, Italy), engineers and researchers work closely to design and industrialize leading-edge solutions, both on materials and integration technology, to move towards tomorrow’s PV market.
Sustainable Development
-
Energy Efficiency
Cluster project
The Cluster project - "The energy chain" is financed by the European Social Fund, the Labor Ministry and the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government (Measure D.1) and is targeted at SMEs that want to strengthen their capabilities as regards energy, in terms of savings, certification and new regional and national policies on energy improvements.
The project is managed by a partnership consisting of:
IAL FVG (lead partner)
Udine industrial association (Assindustria Udine)
API
CATA CNA Udine
CIFRA - Centro di ricerca e formazione ambientale dell'Università di Udine (University of Udine center for environmental research and training)
Friuli Innovazione
Confartigianato UDINE (association of artisan companies)
The process is organized around a series of training meetings - there are three courses and eight seminars - and individual rounds of technical assistance (on a consultancy basis) offered to companies that want to carry out energy diagnoses and draw up energy improvement plans.
Various topics are covered by the training activities: from techniques to improve energy efficiency and in-house energy production to the energy diagnosis of buildings, sizing of photovoltaic installations and financing available for renewable energy sources.
